YWCA Giving Tuesday
November 29, 2022
Her husband was physically, emotionally, and financially abusive. Olivia* was not allowed to have a job and he gave her an allowance for things she and their children needed. The last straw was when she woke up to her husband holding a gun to her head. Olivia knew then she couldn’t keep herself or her three children safe. So she finally left.
When they arrived at the YWCA Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center, Olivia was withdrawn and insecure. She walked with her head down and was overly apologetic. She didn’t seem to know who she was outside of her abusive relationship.
The team at YWCA helped Olivia find a job and navigate the legalities of leaving her abusive husband. She participated in family classes and her children were able to attend a YWCA summer camp. As time went on, the shift in Olivia was palpable. She became confident. She laughed. And she was able to advocate for herself and her family.
Olivia found safety and herself at YWCA. But dozens of other women and children still need your support. At YWCA, our goal is to help women and children become independent, confident, and find their second chance at happiness. We do this by providing a safe, secure place to call home, a caring and healthy environment, case management, and so much more.
And we need your help today to make all of this possible.
Your gift this Giving Tuesday will allow YWCA to provide critical services to women, children, and families in the El Paso community.
