JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, teaches and coordinates a youth program, maintaining safety and technical standards that lead to a quality program providing positive experiences for students in developing new skills, improving self-image and having fun. Provide a fun and educational Youth Fun days’ program experience for children. Coordinates youth aerobics and physical fitness sessions for a specified health and fitness program.
Regular attendance at the Employer's place of business and/or during hours, as assigned, is an essential function of this position. Employees must always comply with and follow YWCA’s attendance policy, unless reasonable accommodation is requested and granted, as required by law.
Provides basic instruction to children and adult class participants in any youth fitness discipline including, but not limited to martial arts, gymnastics, and dance.
Develops class content, skills and choreographs routines.
Facilitates and creates lesson plans for daily activities. Plans and organizes class formats including skills instruction, practice sessions, and evaluation periods. 5. Develops standards for various levels of competencies such as Level I, Level II, Level III, and advanced levels.
Enthusiastically greets students before each class. Prepares class meeting area and ensures that classes start and end on time.
Monitors class attendance and enrollment.
Supervises "fun-day" program activities of children to include swimming, fitness activities, and arts & crafts.
Classes begin with warm-up routines including stretching exercises.
Observes students to determine physical and artistic abilities and potential.
Explains and demonstrates techniques and methods of body movement to musical accompaniment.
May create, direct and stage the presentation of students’ work and assist with preparation and organization of recitals.
Supervises class participants to ensure participant safety and compliance with policies and procedures. Provides first aid in the event of emergency and prepares incident reports as needed.
Sets up range, order, and maintenance of equipment for optimal performance.
Maintains good working relationships with Front Desk staff, parents and participants, communicating in a courteous and professional manner.
Supervises use of supplies and equipment. Returns materials to proper storage spaces after use.
Promotes the program within the YWCA and throughout the community.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
High school degree preferred or at least 16 years of age enrolled in school with an active student status.
Two (2) years' previous experience as a fitness trainer or similar role preferred.
Considerable ability to create a fun atmosphere in class is required.
Must be able to effectively communicate with people of all ages.
Ability to work well with adults and children in a learning environment required.
Must be energetic, organized, have experience teaching young children and willing to exercise considerable judgment and initiative in dance skills development.
Must be willing to work weekends, late afternoons, and evenings and/or before and after normal hours.
Must be capable of planning and holding periodic recitals.
Certification in CPR/First Aid required.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
May be required to have access to personal vehicle with valid driver’s license.
