SUPPORTIVE & AFFORDABLE HOUSING
It’s our mission…
YWCA El Paso del Norte Region operates three Supportive Housing Programs to fulfill the needs of low-income El Pasoans – the Transitional Living Center, Rapid Re-Housing Apartments, and Lower Valley Senior Housing. Supportive housing not only helps to end homelessness and increase housing stability, it also improves health outcomes and lowers public costs by reducing the use of publicly-funded crisis services, such as emergency shelters, hospitals, psychiatric centers, and correctional facilities. Even during community crisis, YWCA Supportive Housing Programs work diligently to secure new funding and ultimately ensure that we can continue serving families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, and low-income seniors.
Transitional Living Center
-
The Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center (TLC), a residential shelter for homeless women and their children, opened its doors in 1993. The TLC offers a supportive living environment and intensive case management to help women experiencing homelessness make the transition to independent living. The facility serves women and their children and our case management program helps residents progress toward a self-sufficiency plan.
-
YWCA works closely with Coordinated Entry, a system for persons experiencing homelessness are matched with intervention programs, by calling 915-500-1011 for referral.
Anyone experiencing domestic violence is encouraged to call the Crisis Hopeline at 915-593-7300 or call 911 in an emergency.
Rapid Rehousing and Rental Assistance
-
Rapid Rehousing is an intervention designed to help those who are experiencing homelessness. YWCA Rapid Rehousing provides short-term rental assistance and supportive services for clients.
Senior Housing
-
YWCA provides affordable housing for low-income senior citizens. Adjacent to the Dorothy Woodly Hunt Branch in El Paso’s Lower Valley, these 12 apartments offer independent living to senior citizens who also benefit from health, wellness and volunteer opportunities offered at the Dorothy Woodly Hunt Branch.
