Specialty Fitness Trainer

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, leads and coordinates individual or group youth and adult aerobics and physical fitness sessions for a nationally licensed specialty health and fitness program.

  • Regular attendance at Employer's place of business and/or during particular hours, as assigned, is an essential function of this position.  Employee must comply with and follow YWCA’s attendance policy at all times, unless a reasonable accommodation is requested and granted, as required by law. 

  • Plans and leads exercise/activity sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas, such at Zumba®, Zumba Kids®, Zumba Gold®, Aqua Zumba®, Intensity®, etc.

  • Prepares weekly lesson plans for each level of fitness, according to national certification to teach that class.

  • Designs a fitness class format that encourages safety and maximum class participation.

  • Monitors class attendance and enrollment.

  • Motivates participants to stay healthy and keep fit with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

  • Prepares class meeting area and ensures that classes start and end on time.  Enthusiastically greets students before each class.

  • Sets up and monitors necessary class equipment, performs regular maintenance and ensures its return in serviceable condition.

  • Prepares and master’s the instruction of an entire fitness class and or designs exercise formats to emphasize participant abilities and capabilities using the current national licensed program standards, guidelines and procedures.

  • Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required.

  • Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate.

  • Distributes handouts and/or class evaluations and answers questions from participants after each session.

  • Assesses participant intensity levels.  Provides instruction for periodic exertion level checks and watches for signs of overexertion.

  • Assists members on the workout floor and keeps the facility clean.

  • Tracks progress of clients, maintaining client files as appropriate.

  • Helps with health fairs and special events.

  • Maintains instructor certificate and continuing education as required by national licensing organization.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

  • Recognized competency in national licensed curriculum, as required. 

  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.

  • Knowledge and experience in leading group training required.

  • Position requires superb physical condition.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with people of all ages.

  • Must be willing to work weekends, late afternoons, and evenings and/or before and after normal hours.

  • Ability to create a fun atmosphere in class required.

  • Must be able to perform job in safest possible manner due to high injury risk.

  • May be required to have access to personal vehicle with valid driver’s license and proof of sufficient liability insurance if assignments required multi-site classes.
