STEAM Tutor

Location: PT - 12.5 Hrs.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under indirect supervision, provides STEAM tutoring, lesson plan implementation, and support activities in selected after school sites, summer and intersession camps.

  • Regular attendance at the Employer's place of business and/or during particular hours, as assigned, is an essential function of this position.

  • Employees must always comply with and follow YWCA’s attendance policy, unless reasonable accommodation is requested and granted, as required by law.

  • Provides tutoring and implements STEAM curriculum for School Age children ranging from ages 4-12 years at assigned locations.

  • Picks up and inventories supplies and equipment such as VR sets and Ozobots; makes requests for replacements; uses proper care in their use and storage.

  • Ensures program site maintained clean and free of debris to include after school program lockers, tables, floors, bathroom, etc.

  • Provide reports to STEAM Coordinator on:

  • Changes to their schedule of services provided including site, time, and activity as needed.

  • Program successes, challenges, student feedback, and photo documentation (Weekly)

  • Number of children participating in STEAM program each day as needed/requested.

  • Implement student progress assessment tools as directed by supervisor.

  • Complies with Texas Department of Family and Protective (TDFPS) minimum standards for childcare.

  • Monitors, detects and reports abuse and neglect according to Texas Family Code and TDFPS minimum standards.

  • Prepares reports of all incidents to supervisor and Safety Coordinator in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Communicates regularly with supervisor during After School Program.

  • Creates engaging STEAM activities and lesson plans for school age.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in/ have completed associate or bachelor’s degree program in STEAM related field.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must meet the requirements relating to Background Checks outlined by TDFPS.

  • Complete a notarized Licensing Affidavit for Applicants for Employment form.

  • Complete orientation to operation as specified in TDFPS Minimum Standards.

  • Must acquire CPR, First Aid/, DFPS background check, food handler and FBI fingerprint certifications prior to start of employment. Must maintain these certifications throughout employment.

  • Access to vehicle and possession of valid driver's license and sufficient liability insurance is required.

  • Must have an interest in working with children ages 4-12.

  • Must be able to motivate, engage and inspire children while remaining sensitive to their needs and capabilities.

  • Ability to be creative and resourceful required.

  • Must be able to cope with emergencies.

  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to work under pressure with interruptions.

  • Must be able to work independently and autonomously as required.

  • Must be able to make sound judgments.

  • Bilingual capabilities in English/Spanish is preferred but not required.

  • If you have lived out of state in the past five years you are required to submit for criminal history and child abuse/neglect check for the different states, you have resided in.

  • Must supply physician statement of current negative TB test and freedom from communicable diseases.
