YWCA El Paso del Norte Region Strives to Fulfill Childcare Needs with Increased Scholarship Availability
In an effort to serve the childcare needs of even more El Paso families, YWCA El Paso del Norte Region (YWCA) is increasing the income threshold and amount offered for its own scholarship and childcare assistance program known as We Care. Families and individuals with a household income of $38,000 or less now qualify for the scholarship, which may be up to $40 off a week of tuition to one of the seven YWCA Early Learning Academies or $15 off a week of tuition to one of the more than 40 YWCA After School Programs.
“YWCA’s mission is eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all and providing access to affordable and quality early childhood education is key to that,” said YWCA CEO Sylvia Acosta, Ph.D. “This increase will help empower more families who may not qualify for other assistance but who struggle to afford childcare, which may keep them from having the gainful employment they want. It also empowers the next generation of El Pasoans by providing critical services for more children. Early childhood education is vital to success in education, personal relationships, mental, social and behavioral health, and countless other aspects of life and we hope to benefit as many El Paso children as possible through this program.”
Previously, households with an income of $30,000 or less qualified for a YWCA We Care Scholarship and the amount for a YWCA ELA was $30 off. YWCA offers seven early learning academies and 40 after school programs. All seven ELAs have been rated four stars by Texas Rising Star, a quality and improvement early childhood education agency in Texas.
